Appliance and Cabinetry Choices for Kitchen Remodeling
I love everything about kitchens. I especially love my new kitchen. From my French door refrigerator of my kitchen counter stools. My husband and I recently remodeled our kitchen. Before I purchased any new kitchen appliances I really did my homework. I checked out kitchen stoves, and what are the best dishwashers. Before my husband and I renovated our kitchen we looked into kitchen cabinet replacement doors.
I looked at lots of different appliances before I purchased any for my kitchen. I wanted a French door refrigerator. I ended up purchasing a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator with bottom mount freezer. It has an ice/water dispenser. I didn't need too many bells and whistles. I realize that some brands like Amana, LG and GE had some models which were Energy Star qualified and had lots of features, but I choose the Whirlpool.
I also was in the market for an under counter refrigerator. I found out the difference between what is called a beverage center and a refrigerator is that the refrigerator has a freezer compartment. I decided that I wanted more of a beverage center. I purchased a U-Line under counter refrigerator with an ice maker because we do a lot of entertaining. I looked at the Sub-Zero selection of drawer refrigeration units too. They were very nice but I wanted a built in ice maker.
As I wanted to keep a sleek look in our kitchen I wanted a drop in range. A drop in range does not have a bottom drawer. The units sits on a frame which is fronted with the same cabinetry used in the rest of the kitchen. I looked at the new dual fuel kitchen stoves available. I liked the idea but we don't have access to gas in our neighborhood. I looked at brands like KitchenAid, GE, Frigidaire, Maytag and Amana. I liked some of the features I saw like automatic oven shut off and warming drawers. I chose an induction cook top kitchen stove. I like the fact that it looks sleek and the cooking surface itself doesn't get hot.
I looked for what were rated the best dishwashers too. I was surprised to find out that the majority of all dishwashers are made by two or three different companies. Maytag makes Jenn-Air and Amana. Whirlpool makes KitchenAid and some Kenmore models. A quiet dishwasher was important to us, as was one that is energy efficient. We want to save on water costs.
As far as the kitchen cabinetry, we decided we could spend a bit more on things like flooring, counter top and appliances if we just replaced the existing kitchen cabinet doors. We had a very good kitchen layout to start with so we decided not to change it. We used kitchen cabinet replacement doors. What gives our kitchen such a decorator look is that we used moldings and valances to give a finished look and then we bought new kitchen cabinet hardware.
A kitchen remodeling project is a huge undertaking. From decisions about flooring and counter tops, to appliances you'll have dozens to make. It's always easiest if you know exactly what your budget is and what you're looking for before you start shopping for appliances. Every homeowner has their own decisions to make. We used kitchen cabinet replacement doors so that we could splurge on other things like an under counter refrigerator with an ice maker. We read reviews about the best dishwashers and decided we wanted a quiet running dishwasher and water savings over other features. We learned the quietest dishwashers run 42-43dB. We read a lot about kitchen stoves before we decided on an induction range. We had a good idea of what we wanted before we started. Our agreeing on these things before we started our kitchen remodel made the process an easy one.
